Good news, everybody!
I'm attending Android Labs event in Zurich and Reto Meier, developer say they have a bugfix and are going to push it in the next OTA update, at least for Nexus One. That's really great!

Yeah...
I think this was an underspecified part of the android ecosystem! Just for a brief comparison, a similar application on the iPod Touch requires that the screen stays on all night!
It is actually fixed. Froyo 2.2 upgrade for Nexus One solves the bug and lets you use the app on the nexus perfectly fine.
